About your rent statement
Twice each year, in April and October, we will send you a statement of your rent account for the previous six months.
These statements show all payments due and received. Any arrears or prepayments are divided up between you, as the tenant, Housing Benefit and Supporting People charges, if you are entitled to these charges.
If you have any queries about you rent account, please contact your Housing Manager.
How to pay
- Rent is always due weekly, in advance. This means you pay each Monday for the week ahead.
- If you prefer to pay your rent four weekly or monthly, we can arrange this. Your rent will, of course, still be payable in advance, due on the 1st of each month for the month ahead.
- The Association will not accept cash or cheques for regular rent payments.
- A Standing Order from your bank account is the easiest way to pay. Once you have set up the Standing Order. you can be confident that your rent will be paid. You will be given a mandate as part of the sign up process and you will also be advised how much your weekly payments should be.
Housing Benefit
If you are on a low wage, or receive welfare benefits, or are retired and your income or savings are below a certain level, you may be able to get help with your rent from Housing Benefit. We can help you to complete forms.
If you apply for Housing Benefit, please note:
- You are responsible for paying the rent.
- You are responsible for your Housing Benefit claim.
- You will have to pay any rent not covered by Housing Benefit.
The usual reasons for rent not being covered by
Housing Benefit are:
- Late application: Apply as soon as you move in.
- Late renewal: Complete your annual renewal form on time.
- Incomplete application: Send all the information required in with your claim form.
- Incorrect information: Let them know of changes in your household.
- Income or savings over the prescribed limits.
We will:
- Answer any questions about issues that might affect your claim.
- Tell you how to have the Housing Benefit paid direct to us.
- If Housing Benefit payments are sent direct to the Association, we will let you know if your payment stops.
Problems with paying your rent
You are responsible for ensuring that your rent is paid in full and on time. However, the Association will always be happy to help should any problems arise in terms of claiming Housing Benefit and other benefits that you may be entitled to. We are members of the Bexley and Bromley HB Verification Framework and will be happy to complete the claim form and verify evidence for you and submit to the Council. This will speed up your claim.
